Storm and leak call-outs

Emergency roof repair in Cork.

The first hour is about stopping the damage getting worse. Roofers Cork make the roof safe and dry first, repair it properly second, and write down what they found.

01 / About this service

What to do in the first hour

Water coming in? Ring Roofers Cork on 021 212 9985. Our aim is to reach you inside 4 hrs. Until the crew arrives, some things help and some things make it worse.

Inside, move furniture and valuables out from under the leak and put a bucket or basin under the drip. Should a ceiling be bulging with water, make a small hole at its lowest point to let the water out in a controlled way, into a bucket, before the whole ceiling gives. Keep away from light fittings and sockets near the wet area, and switch off the circuit if water is reaching them. Take photographs of the damage as it is, because your insurer will ask for them.

Outside, stay off the roof. A wet roof in wind is how people end up in hospital, and slates broken by a foot do not help the repair. Likewise, do not climb a ladder to look. If tiles have come down, keep children and pets away from the area below, and do not pick up large pieces from a slope above you.

On arrival, the crew deals first with safety and with keeping water out: loose slates secured or removed, an open area sheeted, a hole battened over. That is the temporary stage, and it does not pretend to be the repair. The permanent repair follows once the weather settles, on a written price. You get a photographed written report of the damage and the temporary work, for your insurer. Keep any fallen slates or pieces of lead where they landed if it is safe to leave them, because they show the insurer which way the wind came from and what actually failed.

02 / Options

What emergency work involves.

Making safe

Loose material is secured or taken off the roof before it falls, and the area around the house is made safe.

Temporary weatherproofing

Open sections are sheeted and battened down to keep water out until the repair, with the weather in mind.

Storm damage assessment

Once the roof is secure, we check the rest for lifted ridges, slipped slates and damaged lead that the storm has started.

Permanent repair

Done after the emergency visit, on a written fixed price, in dry conditions.

Written report for insurers

A photographed written account of the damage, the cause as far as can be told and the work done.

Fallen chimney work

Stacks that are unsafe are made safe first. Rebuilding is priced separately after a survey.

06 / FAQ

Questions, answered.

How quickly can Roofers Cork get to an emergency?

Reaching you within 4 hrs of your call is our aim. That is a target, not a promise, because a big storm means many calls and unsafe roads. We tell you honestly when we ring back.

How much does emergency storm repair cost?

Storm callouts are guided at €1,500–€8,000+ plus VAT for 2026, over 1–5 days, and a simple leak sits nearer the €400–€2,500 range for leak repairs. Everything is confirmed in writing before the permanent work.

Will you give me something for my insurer?

Yes. You get a written report with photographs of the damage and the work done to make it safe. Whether the insurer pays depends on the policy, which we cannot see.

Should I go up and cover the hole myself?

No. A wet roof in wind is dangerous, and a tarp fixed badly can blow off and do more damage. Stay inside, protect your belongings and ring.

Is the temporary work the repair?

No. Temporary work stops water coming in and buys time. The permanent repair is done afterwards, usually in drier conditions, on a written price.

What if the storm is still going when you arrive?

Safety comes first. If conditions are unsafe for a crew on the roof, we say so, and make the best of what can be done from inside and from the ground until the wind drops.

What should I photograph before you arrive?

The wet ceiling or wall, any water on the floor, slates or tiles on the ground and, only if you can see it from a safe place on the ground, the damaged part of the roof. Date-stamped phone photos are enough.

Do I need to be at home when the crew arrives?

It helps, because the crew needs to see the leak from inside and agree where they can put ladders or an access platform. If you cannot be there, a neighbour or a family member with a key can let them in, provided you have told us first.
